This role will ensure that the plan is maintained, updated, and enhanced as the needs of the business evolve through leadership of their team and partnership with key business leaders. The leader in this role will drive and inspire their team to develop cutting edge data science approaches forming the center of excellence for voice of customer analytics for the US and paving a new path of innovation through the use of a variety of disparate data sources of all types (structured and unstructured). They will lead business intelligence excellence for US Medical Affairs, generate powerful analytics findings, track and monitor key indicators and close-to-real time triggers for unmet need opportunities, uncover and illuminate differences across customer, patient, and geographic segments, and enable deep dive diagnostic discovery of structured and unstructured customer information to drive better and more timely operational and strategic decision-making. This leadership role spans therapeutic areas with opportunities to support both Medical Affairs and the Commercial business with data science advancements and capabilities with a responsibility of prioritizing work within the team aligned with the most critical strategic priorities. This role will be responsible for aligning with critical therapeutic area (TA) needs through partnership with the Medical Insights Leads ensuring agreed upon timelines and deliverables are met. This role will also champion sharing of best practices and cross team learning given support across TAs and assets. The leader in this role will actively collaborate with Medical Affairs leadership for the best recommendations and deliverables for US Medical Affairs and the US market. They will closely collaborate with US Commercial analytics leaders, as appropriate, for opportunities to use analytic platforms and data science methods, business intelligence tools, technology platforms to process unstructured data, and to integrate monitoring and tracking of unmet needs aligned with patient journeys. This leader will partner with other leaders across the stakeholder matrix such as within R&D, Global, Commercial, Tech, etc. through appropriate forums to influence opportunities and share best practices to shape data strategy, analytics platforms and analytics delivery. The leader will drive industry leading practices with NLP/text analytics/machine learning and focus data analytics/reporting/monitoring for data driven decision making and demonstrated business impact and value. This role will provide YOU the opportunity to lead key activities to progress YOUR career, these responsibilities include some of the following Lead the NLP/Text Analytics and Medical Unmet Needs Data Analytics and Reporting team ensuring alignment with critical strategic priorities for US Medical Affairs grounded in solving for unmet medical needs of customers and patients and meeting or exceeding department goals. Develop and drive a beyond-industry leading NLP/Text Analytics/Machine Learning capability and road map to maximize both structured and unstructured customer data with industry expertise to more deeply understand medical unmet needs and identify actionable customer findings and insights. Partner as appropriate with Global colleagues to enable scaling of best practices for usage at a global level. Drive innovative solutions and lead the team to blaze new trails for incremental value and impactful decision making through frameworks that focus on rapid testing of new ideas to prove value and incorporation of fail fast and fail early principles working in an agile way. Maintain current knowledgebase of state-of-the-art ML algorithms (BERT, ELMo, GPT, etc.), API's, and open-source methods and be able to quickly evaluate alternatives to develop solutions and deliver incremental value for the business. Develop capabilities within the team to be recognized as a leading data science capability center. Develop and maintain a data analytics and reporting roadmap/plan for the team across TAs and for overall US Medical Affairs bringing innovation and delivering best in class approaches for medical unmet needs monitoring, reporting, and diagnostics. The roadmap and plan will consider analytic platforms, tools, AI, advanced analytics methods (including machine learning, NLP, statistical analysis, etc.) and business intelligence approaches along with integration of disparate sources (both structured and unstructured). Critical components will include efficient and effective data processing and data quality assessments, reporting and monitoring of medical unmet need changes and trigger-based views in close to real time, and KPIs for tactical execution checks and strategic adjustments. Advanced analytics methods and AI approaches will be incorporated to maximize learning and drive impactful, timely data discoveries for developing and uncovering customer insights for deeper unmet needs understanding. Lead and inspire the team, based on a strong understanding of Medical Affairs and the business, to actively seek out innovative approaches, industry trends, and external methods/benchmarks to deliver greater value and chart a new path for: Sophisticated yet simple visuals and interactive tools Innovative solutions that drive easier consumption of data and analytics findings (automated executive summaries and storyboards, etc.) Automation opportunities to operationalize advanced analytics models, KPIs/reporting/monitoring, analytics driven triggers/alerts, data discovery, voice of customer analyses, and deep dive diagnostics Efficient and effective data processing and data quality/governance assessments Development and management of trusted analytic ready data sources for use across Medical Analytics Agile learning and improvement processes in collaboration with key medical stakeholders to enhance NLP/machine learning models for greater precision and action-based recommendations Ensure that the team proactively gathers information from various sources (including de-identified patient level data with medical unmet needs states defined and unstructured text for deeper unmet need understanding) to develop KPIs aligned with specific, prioritized strategic business questions and execution checks by TA. Ensure that unmet need segments and gap closure is tracked for on-going updates for senior leaders on progress and as a precursor to a deep dive impact analyses that will quantify significant changes in unmet needs. Drive innovation and deeper unmet need discovery through integration of findings identified via text analytics from medical voice of customer, medical inquiries, and social media as appropriate, building from the global solution available (mD2I). Ensure collaboration on developing the data strategy and needs for US Medical Affairs through close partnership within Medical Analytics and with Commercial as well as R&D to maximize data collectively available for use by Medical Affairs. Lead the team to ensure data availability, data acquisition, and data accuracy for analytics, reporting, and customer insight discovery. Influence Tech partners to enable more efficient data processing across data types, shared analytics platforms, new data science technologies, frameworks, tools, and advanced analytics methodologies and scale data science models through distributed computing and platform implementation to meet the needs of the US business. Work effectively with stakeholders and your team to understand ambiguous business problems, assess data needs, build machine learning/NLP models through all phases of development from design, testing, data gathering, training, evaluation, validation, governance, and implementation/usage by the team and business stakeholders and help/strategize deploying them in production Demonstrate effective leadership influence and collaboration to drive a more data-driven culture within Medical Affairs. Earn the trust of Medical Affairs leaders and stakeholder partners across the enterprise through active leadership, strong cross-matrix partnership, demonstration of advanced analytics expertise, and strong business acumen. Maintain and enhance business knowledge and depth of scientific concepts, strategies, and overall business (Medical, Commercial, and R&D) objectives for appropriate business context with plans and recommendations. Communicate clearly and simply for stakeholder and Medical leadership understanding; Demonstrate effective communication across varying levels of leadership (adjusting as appropriate). Basic Qualifications: We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals: BA/BS in applied quantitative sciences discipline (Life Sciences, Applied Science, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, Operations Research, Engineering, Analytics, or other quantitative discipline required) with strong business acumen 8-10 years' experience (including 3+ years in healthcare) in applying data science analytics and insights for business decisions (data science, analytics, forecasting, etc.) OR 5-8 years with an advanced degree (including 3+ years in healthcare) At least 4 years of experience with open source programming languages for large scale data analysis and experience with cloud platforms Mastery of relevant analytical concepts and frameworks including machine learning, NLP, statistical analysis, etc. and proven ability to explain and interpret models for appropriate business application and use Mastery in understanding and integrating multiple and disparate types of data in various analytics environments including cloud-based platforms Knowledge of state-of-the-art ML algorithms (BERT, ELMo, GPT, GPT-2, XLNET, etc.), API's, and open-source methods Demonstrated leadership (successful matrix leadership or enterprise leadership) Proficiency in Python, R, and/or PySpark and experience with Git/Github required Experience in ML frameworks/tools (e.g. scikit-learn, pandas, Numpy, mlr, caret, H2O, TensorFlow, Pytorch, Caffe/Caffe2, CNTK, MLlib, etc.) Experience using NLP tools and methods such as OpenNLP, Stanford NLP, LSA, LDA, Gensim, FastText, NLTK, spaCy, etc. Accomplishments with Azure Virtual Machines, SPARK, and DataBricks and hands-on experience with SQL Server, Cosmos, or SQL Data Warehouse.
